About the museum
The story of the Groeningemuseum
The Groeningemuseum in Bruges holds the city's collection of fine art, on the site of a former Eekhout abbey. It opened in 1930.
It is famous for its Flemish Primitives, including Jan van Eyck, Hans Memling and Hieronymus Bosch, along with later Belgian art.
The collection
The Groeningemuseum covers six centuries of Flemish and Belgian painting. Its Flemish Primitives include Jan van Eyck's Madonna with Canon van der Paele and his portrait of his wife Margaret, Hans Memling, Hugo van der Goes and Gerard David's Judgment of Cambyses.
Later rooms show Flemish Baroque painting, Belgian Symbolism and Expressionism by Fernand Khnopff, James Ensor and Constant Permeke.
At ArtLogia you can order 35 of its paintings as hand-painted reproductions, by 20 artists led by Joseph-Benoît Suvée, Pieter Pourbus and Jan van Eyck.
