About the museum
The story of the Leopold Museum
The Leopold Museum in Vienna's MuseumsQuartier opened in 2001 with the collection of Rudolf and Elisabeth Leopold, built up over five decades.
It holds the world's largest collection of Egon Schiele, together with major works by Klimt, Kokoschka and the artists and designers of Vienna 1900.
The collection
Rudolf Leopold, an ophthalmologist, began collecting Schiele in the 1950s when the artist was still little valued. The collection of more than 5,000 works was turned into a foundation in 1994, with the help of the Austrian state.
It holds over forty paintings and 180 works on paper by Egon Schiele, major works by Gustav Klimt, Richard Gerstl and Oskar Kokoschka, and furniture and design of the Wiener Werkstätte.
At ArtLogia you can order 12 of its paintings as hand-painted reproductions, by 4 artists led by Gustav Klimt, Egon Schiele and Richard Gerstl.
