About the museum
The story of the Ny Carlsberg Glyptotek
The Ny Carlsberg Glyptotek in Copenhagen was founded by the brewer Carl Jacobsen and opened in 1897. Its domed Winter Garden, with palm trees under glass, is the heart of the building.
It is famous for ancient sculpture and for French art, including Gauguin, Degas's sculptures, Manet and Rodin, as well as Danish Golden Age painting.
The collection
Carl Jacobsen, of the Carlsberg brewery, collected ancient sculpture from Egypt, Greece, Rome and Etruria, and modern French and Danish art. The Glyptotek holds one of the largest collections of Rodin outside France.
Its French paintings include Gauguin from his Danish years and Tahiti, Manet's The Absinthe Drinker, Degas, Monet and Cézanne, and it owns a complete set of Degas's bronze sculptures.
At ArtLogia you can order 15 of its paintings as hand-painted reproductions, by 12 artists led by Vincent van Gogh, Paul Gauguin and Édouard Manet.

The building
Vilhelm Dahlerup designed the first building of 1897 and Hack Kampmann the later wing. Its glass-domed Winter Garden is filled with palm trees, and Henning Larsen added a modern building inside the old courtyard in 1996.
