About the museum

The story of the Musée Rodin

The Musée Rodin opened in 1919 in the Hôtel Biron, an eighteenth-century mansion in Paris where Auguste Rodin had his studio in the last years of his life.

It holds Rodin's sculptures, drawings and personal collection, including works by Van Gogh and Renoir, as well as sculpture by Camille Claudel.

The collection

Rodin gave the French state his sculptures, drawings, archives and the art he had collected, on condition that a museum be created in the Hôtel Biron. The collection includes his marbles, bronzes and thousands of plaster studies.

His own collection of paintings includes Van Gogh's Père Tanguy and works by Renoir and Monet, and a room is devoted to Camille Claudel, his pupil and partner.

At ArtLogia you can order 5 of its paintings as hand-painted reproductions, by 3 artists led by Vincent van Gogh, Edvard Munch and François Lemoyne.

The building

The Hôtel Biron, built in 1727–32, was divided into flats for artists in the early twentieth century; Rodin rented rooms there from 1908. The garden holds The Thinker, The Gates of Hell and The Burghers of Calais among rose beds.
