About the museum

The story of the Petit Palais

The Petit Palais was built for the 1900 World's Fair on the Champs-Élysées and has been home to the City of Paris Museum of Fine Arts since 1902.

Its collection runs from antiquity to 1900, with a strong group of French nineteenth-century painting by Courbet, Delacroix, Monet and the Belle Époque painters.

The collection

The Petit Palais holds about 40,000 works, owned by the City of Paris, from ancient Greek vases to the art of 1900. Its nineteenth-century paintings include Courbet's The Sleepers and Self-Portrait with Black Dog, as well as Delacroix, Ingres, Monet, Sisley and Cézanne.

It also shows Dutch and Flemish painting from the Dutuit collection, Renaissance objects, icons and the Art Nouveau design that celebrated the Paris of the Belle Époque.

At ArtLogia you can order 56 of its paintings as hand-painted reproductions, by 44 artists led by Paul Cézanne, Gustave Courbet and Alfred Sisley.

The building

Charles Girault designed the palace for the 1900 Exposition Universelle opposite the Grand Palais. Its gilded entrance, painted ceilings and a semicircular garden courtyard with a colonnade make it one of the most beautiful buildings in Paris.
