About the museum

The story of the Palazzo Vecchio

The Palazzo Vecchio has been Florence's town hall since the fourteenth century, with its crenellated tower rising above the Piazza della Signoria. Much of it is now a museum.

Its state rooms, decorated by Vasari and his workshop, include the vast Hall of the Five Hundred, and the palace holds Michelangelo's Genius of Victory.

The collection

The palace museum includes the state rooms of Cosimo I de' Medici, decorated by Giorgio Vasari and his workshop, the Studiolo of Francesco I with its painted cupboard doors, and the apartments of the Medici dukes.

Its sculptures include Michelangelo's Genius of Victory and Donatello's Judith and Holofernes, and a copy of Michelangelo's David stands outside the entrance, where the original stood until 1873.

At ArtLogia you can order 9 of its paintings as hand-painted reproductions, by 6 artists led by Giorgio Vasari, Bronzino and Leonardo da Vinci.
