About the museum
The story of the Bode Museum
The Bode Museum stands at the tip of Berlin's Museum Island, its dome rising above the river Spree. It opened in 1904 and is named after Wilhelm von Bode, its first director.
It is best known for sculpture, Byzantine art and coins, and also shows paintings from the Gemäldegalerie's collection.
The collection
The Bode Museum holds the Sculpture Collection and the Museum of Byzantine Art of Berlin's State Museums, together with one of the world's largest coin collections.
Its galleries mix sculpture with paintings from the Gemäldegalerie, as Wilhelm von Bode intended, so that Renaissance altarpieces, bronzes and paintings are shown together in period rooms.
At ArtLogia you can order 5 of its paintings as hand-painted reproductions, by 5 artists led by Luca Signorelli, Rembrandt van Rijn and Peter Paul Rubens.

The building
Ernst von Ihne designed the neo-Baroque building, opened in 1904 as the Kaiser-Friedrich-Museum. It was renamed after Bode in 1956 and reopened in 2006 after restoration.
