About the museum
The story of the Czartoryski Museum
The Czartoryski Museum in Kraków grew from the collection that Princess Izabela Czartoryska began gathering at Puławy in the 1790s, the beginning of one of the first museums in Poland. It moved to Kraków in the 1870s and became part of the National Museum in Kraków in 2016.
Its most famous treasure is Leonardo da Vinci's Lady with an Ermine, one of only four portraits of women by Leonardo.
The collection
The museum's collection was gathered by Princess Izabela Czartoryska to preserve Poland's history after the country was partitioned. It mixes national memorabilia with European art, including Rembrandt's Landscape with the Good Samaritan.
Its most famous painting, Leonardo da Vinci's Lady with an Ermine, is one of only a handful of Leonardo paintings. Raphael's Portrait of a Young Man, once part of the collection, was lost during the Second World War and has never been found.
At ArtLogia you can order 5 of its paintings as hand-painted reproductions, by 5 artists led by Leonardo da Vinci, Raphael and Rembrandt van Rijn.
